City ended a run of five straight defeats in comprehensive fashion as they blew Hassocks away in a 6-1 win at Oaklands.

The day started promisingly for Chi as they welcomed back key players Ruben French and Josh Clack. Early on, Jimmy Wild had a right-footed shot that was goal-bound but was deflected out for a corner.

Jimmy Wild and Dan Hegarty put City two up but Pat Rose and Sam Blundell struck back to earn United a share of the points.

The early pressure continued and City were finally rewarded in the 14th minute as Clack beat three men on the edge of the box and found team-mate Kieran Hartley, who struck a first-time effort into the goal.

In the 24th minute Clack put a dangerous ball into the box, which was inadvertently put into the Hassocks goal by defender Dan Jacques.

Eight minutes before the break the ball fell to Wild following a corner and he struck a sweet right-footed volley into the net.

After the break any hope Hassocks had of getting back into the game was quickly dashed when City were given a penalty after Hartley struck an effort which hit the defender’s hand in the area. French coolly tucked it away.

Hassocks got one back when Jonno Melia headed the ball in.

Chi weren’t done and in the 82nd minute Hartley hit a great long-distance strike which found its way past the keeper and in.

There was one more opportunity for Chi when Graham Bush slotted the ball home to give Chi their sixth.
