The double-winning Barnham Trojans under-13s hosted a touring Real Madrid XI in a friendly – and in an unbelievably-slick and polished display, they deservedly beat the Spaniards 4-2.

Boniface in goal was called into action early on but made a terrific save as the Madrid centre forward went one-on-one, but the Trojans began to dominate and their possession paid dividends with a Brady finish after some brilliant build-up play from the midfield trio of Allen, Barton and Nicholls.

The Trojans were playing Real at their own game with some superb free-flowing football, and it wasn’t long before Britton added a deserved second with a typically-cool finish.

The back four looked impregnable with Jelley and debutant Claydon looking like they’d been playing together for years, and Holden and Trodd both defending and attacking with equal gusto.

Ratcliffe was dominating midfield, spraying passes all over the pitch, and one such pass sent Brady clear to add his second and the Trojans third. It was simply brilliant to watch.

Chapman was introduced to the fray and slotted in at ease to perform his usual under-stated heroics, and Hawkins replaced Boniface to become the game’s second debutant. Both he and Claydon look like two top-drawer additions to an impressive squad.

Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Di Stefano, Luis Figo, Puskas, Gareth Bale and Raul... your boys took one hell of a beating!

Ratcliffe added the goal of the game, smashing in a half-volley from 16 yards after more outstanding work from Allen.

Madrid grabbed a couple of late consolations, but the result really didn’t flatter the Trojans – in addition to the four goals they also smashed the crossbar twice.

It certainly wouldn’t have gone unnoticed that the Trojans’ kit bares a striking resemblance to a certain team from Catalonia.

So well done, Trojans... and in the words of a famous Nowegian commentator: “Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Di Stefano, Luis Figo, Puskas, Gareth Bale and Raul... your boys took one hell of a beating!”
