SPANISH midfielder Pau Cassana Busquets was instrumental as he claimed the man-of-the-match award for his efforts as Chichester Univeristy completed a memorable league season in style, with a 4-1 win over Bath.
With Chichester in second place in the league heading into the final game of the season, they had an early goal disallowed as Sam Goodge’s header was ruled out for a foul.
Bath also had a goal chalked off for offside, but after excellent build-up play, Jack Blatchford was able to assist Ben Chick for the opener and the lead at half-time.
A quickfire double killed off Bath as two superb deliveries from Dan Smith allowed Goodge and Callum Eagle to score bullet headers.
With windy conditions throughout the match, a Bath free-kick was curled in and looked to be drifting wide but somehow found its way into the top corner to make it 3-1.
Debutant Jason Sampson put in a crucial challenge to stop Bath from adding a second, before a fourth goal arrived as another Smith corner was met by Chick to complete the scoring.
Three assists from Smith, three points and a second-place finish in the Premier Division, despite predictions of struggles in this league, concluded a superb campaign for the side.
The previous week, Chichester had sealed Brighton’s relegation with a 4-1 victory.
Chi were on the front foot from the start with man-of-the-match Kenneth Hagan flicking the ball home from a corner.
After the break, a through-ball set Hagan free and after an outrageous step-over past the keeper he tapped home into an empty net.
Smith then grabbed a rare goal as he lifted the ball over the keeper. The only blip was a poor goal conceded as Brighton bundled over the line after a Chi attack.
In stoppage time, Chick was able to grab his milestone 30th Chi goal as mark a memorable day.
