It’s a case of Jallow, goodbye for Bosham’s victory hopes

A goal in first-half injury time by Ebou Jallow was enough to see Saltdean Utd come away with the spoils from a tough Sussex League division-three encounter against Bosham at Walton Lane.

Bosham came into the match full of confidence after their great victory at Newhaven last time out.

Saltdean quickly showed what a good passing team they are and built up a head of steam to test the Reds.

Richard Walton was the first to have a strike on goal but his effort sailed wide.

Marco Giambelardini was again at the heart of all good things to come from the Reds but clear efforts on goal were few.

Owen Fisher, the Saltdean keeper, could be heard barking instructions to his players and a little luck came their way right on half-time.

A free-kick was blasted goalwards by Walton, bringing an excellent save from Hasted but Jallow was quick to react to an uncharacteristic spillage by Hasted and stabbed the ball beyond him and in.

Bosham needed to find fire after the break but the sparkle just didn’t seem to be there and Saltdean’s measured approach was effective.

Both sides had chances but the closest Bosham came was late on when a free-kick was driven towards goal by Giambelardini but well saved by Fisher. The Reds looked bereft of ideas as the game neared its end and were lucky not to concede further in the dying minutes. James Ash, Josh Clayton and Scott Wilkinson added much-needed freshness for the final onslaught but Saltdean held on to move a step closer to a possible treble of trophies.

Bosham: Hasted, Stent, Jack Hancock, Blanshard, Smith, Redman, Docherty, Giambelardini, Joe Hancock, Dowden, Brett. Subs: Ash, Wilkinson, Clayton.
