Appy: Don’t expect people to feel sorry for us
Michael Appleton salutes the Pompey fans after the Ipswich game
Pompey boss Michael Appleton expects no sympathy from fellow managers over his club’s plight.
Appleton believes there will be no compassion afforded him by his contemporaries over the Blues’ struggles.
The 36-year-old has heard little from those in the game since it became clear Pompey stood on the brink of administration.
But Appleton insisted that didn’t surprise him in the dog-eat-dog world of football.
He said: ‘You’ll get certain managers you’d have more contact with after working with or under them.
‘But football is a brutal business and it’s a little bit like “as long as I’m not in trouble then everything is fine”.
‘I’m learning that very quickly.
‘It might get your attention and you might see it on TV and think “things are tough down there”.
‘But then you’ve got your own problems to deal with, whether it’s injuries, selection or things like that. You’ve got your own club to deal with.’
Appleton stated he wasn’t concerned about not hearing from those looking on at Pompey’s problems.
But he joked they shouldn’t expect any advice from him if they face similar headaches.
Appleton said: ‘From my point of view, I’ll take all the advice I can from people who are willing to give it to me.
‘I won’t lose sleep or take it personally if no-one is willing to give me that advice.
‘I’m not being rude or disrespectful to other managers – they have got their own problems.
‘If they don’t ring me, I’ve got no issues with that.
‘But don’t expect a phone call if they have the same trouble – I’m only joking!’

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 04:05 PMre post 29. I agree but we fans must share some of the responsibility. We have deluded ourselves. We believed our own hype ie "we are a sleeping giant" , "massive fanbase", "belong in the Premier League" etc etc. We were blinded by our FA Cup success and the 200,000 that turned up on The Common. We lapped up stories of a new ground which were blatently nonsense. We put ourselves under pressure worrying about the lot down the road which blinded us to what was happening right under our noses. I have had enough. Lets wipe the slate clean and start again with a new club untainted by the excesses of the last couple of years.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 03:59 PMI always felt something like this would happen to us, call it a gut feeling when Redcrapp and Bond were here bringing in superstar players on sky high wages, I felt there was more to it when they flogged player's that were our sustainable future, or fan's favourites -commission! A bournemouth fan and a scummerr man, never trusted them, why? - because both club's hate us. Where were they before Pompey?? - They used our club to boost their own flagging CV in the knowledge one day they could walk when the club's money was all gone, and in a shed load of debt, bringing the likes of storrieteller to the club in the process (Harry's mate) .. In the time we were Premier League with arry as our 'king' .. Bournemouth were on their knee's and begging - but suddenly funded a new stadium - now that other lot are allegedly spending millions on a training complex, not forgetting Storrieteller strolling around the golf course at Hayling as if it's he's own back garden .. how many pet's do these three have ..!?!

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 03:33 PMHard to do the maths on the limited information provided but including the taxman the increased debt (over and above what was owed last time the club went into admin) seems to be about £7m. That's a big sum to lose in a year or so given the restrictions placed on buyingloaning players and any loosening of the purse strings would clearly make the losses even greater. really not sure how sustainable it all is but I think HMRC would do a deal if the club backed down over insisting on AA as administrator. Going to be a close run thing on Friday and even winning there is no guarantee of a more stable future rather than just more of the same.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 03:28 PMDon't pin too much hope on the £30m parachute payment - pretty sure that substantial amount of that is already marked down for payment of previous "football debts" and the first tranche of CVA payments due at the beginning of April. If the money isn't there for that then the s.h.i.t. will hit the fan big time. It has to have been accounted for in the financial forecasts going to the court on Friday. I'm sure it will be because if not it will be back to court on Monday

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 03:04 PMBest thing we can do is get liquidated and start a fresh as a new club from scrtach - i dont care what league - we are no longer a sustainable business - who is going to really buy it - it is worthless and has no value or prospects - we have no tangible assets other than a shed which cannot be built on - have you seen what they are doing down the road, it puts us to shame - we are a laughing stock and need a clean slate..

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 02:20 PMIts a sorry situation. The worst Ive known and just to rub salt in the wounds the lot down the road have today announced the start of redevelopment of thier training ground complex. Its going to cost millions and is better than most league football grounds. I feel even more humiliated than ever today.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 12:56 PMTake some advice Appy - close your stance a bit and turn a bit more sideways on; you're left cross looks lethal but that right isn't giving you any protection! MICHAEL APPLETON'S BLUE AND WHITE ARMY!!!

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 12:50 PMit is absolutely disgraceful that the Football League(and the Premier League) have been allowed to engineer a situation where football clubs & interested football jokers are preferrential creditors. In fact, there seems to be some doubt that this is even legal. Why the hell should a local company receive nothing when another club, having been party to a bad decision over a player etc, calmly receive monies when all else loose out? That cannot be right. The reason they have conived to bring this about is stop a club serving a winding up order on another club who happen to owe them money. The Football League will do all they can to protect their own little clique

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:59 AMenquiries@football-league.co.uk send your complaints to this email address and any other complaints email address that they give, Dont be rude just let them know that we feel they didn't do there jobs properly to ensure we are not in this position now. lets see if complaints can help and if the governing bodie of the championship will actually listen to us! please pass it to your friends and urge them to do the same, it may be too little too late but its worth a go surely, lets try and stop the 10 points deduction

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:32 AMAs has been previously stated, we have 3 assets, 1. the ground and site - with a dubious worth and a charge over it for BC, 2. the value of the playing staff - at very best £8 -10m, and the parachute payments £30m. This could be quite attractive after a CVA.
