Fontwell’s Wednesday card: our tips

The Docker Hughes Memorial Novices’ Hurdle kicks off Fontwell Park’s first midweek meeting of 2013 on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s the annual race in memory of the legendary Pompey fan who once stood for Parliament with a manifesto that included such gems as duty free on the Gosport Ferry.

AP McCoy often rides in the race and will be on board Nicky Henderson’s runner Heronry, who may well go off favourite in the 2.10 opener among a declared field of nine.

Next up it’s the Cheltenham Non Runner No Bet At totepool.com Handicap Chase, in which Sussex trainer-jockey partnership Gary and Jamie Moore’s contender, Gee Dee Nen, is our pick.

Eleven are in the frame for the Exclusive Cheltenham Offers On totepool Mobile Handicap Hurdle - with Venetia Williams’ Duaiseoir one to watch.

In the Cheltenham Ten To Follow At totepool.com Handicap Chase, Tom Scudamore has a decent chance aboard Speedy Bruere.

Tom Cannon rarely visits Fontwell without at least one win and Tuscan Gold could be his best ride of the day in the Try A totetrifecta At totepool.com Maiden Hurdle at 4.10.

Seven go in the Arundel Equine Hospital Handicap Chase, including Fontwell regular Princely Hero (Chris Gordon/Tom Cannon) but our selection here is the Twiston-Davies runner Nudge And Nurdle.

The card finishes at 5.10pm with the ‘Happy Birthday’ Angela Bray Standard Open NH Flat Race, where we’re behind AP McCoy on Hawaii Five Nil.

Our tips: 2.10 Heronry, 2.40 Gee Dee Nen, 3.10 Duaiseoir, 3.40 Speedy Bruere, 4.10 Tuscan Gold, 4.40 Nudge and Nurdle, 5.10 Hawaii Five Nil.
