Selsey ladies put on a good display against Steyning on a sweltering day.

They won the toss and put Steyning in. Michelle Ackhurst opened with a maiden over. Lucy Cawley and Emma Bain also bowled maidens.

Thanks to the lightning reactions of Cawley, Pam Baker and Gemma Halford, three Steyning ladies were run out within the first few overs. Wicket takers were Bain (two), Jodie Gower and Charlie Irving. Top bowler was Gower with just two runs conceded four overs, including two maidens and a wicket. Cawley, too, had a good afternoon as Steyning scored only six off her four overs.

Steyning were all out for 68.

Top run scorer for Selsey was Becky Vaughn with a respectable 11. Bain got ten, Cawley nine, Baker six and Ackhurst six not out.

It came down to the wire but in the 19th over, Selsey reached 71 with a final four from Ackhurst.

They have a semi-final this weekend against East Grinstead.
