Fontwell Park’s United Hunts meeting takes place for the second time tonight.

It was transferred from Folkestone racecourse when it closed down in 2012. After some feedback from last year’s meeting, the decision to make some alterations to race conditions has seemed to pay off, with an increase of entries over all seven races.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell is delighted with the number of entries and the support of both local and distant trainers from across the country.

The races are looking very competitive and the weather is looking promising, and all the team are looking forward to the evening.

The meeting kicks off with the Weatherbys Private Banking Novices’ Hunters’ Steeple Chase (for The Guy Peate Memorial Challenge Trophy) over an extended three miles and two furlongs. Some of the 22 entries include Gunmoney and Bermuda Boy.

All eyes will be on multiple Bonhams Mens’ Open scorer Doctor Kingsley, as he bids to follow up his recent Cheltenham success in the fourth race of the evening for the Pauline Harkin stable.

The 12-year-old son of Classic Cliché has never run at Fontwell and will have to adapt to the tight figure-of-eight track and fend off Benheir, Start Royal and Dantes Storm over the 3m 4f trip.

Another significant change this year is the addition of a Ladies’ Open, the fifth race on the card over 2m 6f. The 17 entries include previous Fontwell winner Bay To Go, Master Medic, Crazy Eyes and Rear Gunner.

They will run a one enclosure policy for this race meeting and there will be free car parking in the centre course (A27 entrance – Denmans Lane). Gates open at 3pm with the first of seven races at 5.15.
