Cowdray Park seniors held their 2013 annual meeting in the clubhouse, with a large number in attendance.

Captain Allen Sibley welcomed everyone and thanked them for their generosity and support during his year in office, which had resulted in him presenting a cheque for £3,390 to the Mary How Trust.

He detailed results of the inter-club matches during the year. These had proved very successful at home, with only one defeat, but results away mirrored those of 2012 with five wins.

Sibley thanked committee members for their hard work, as well as the organisers of the open and invitation, and praised the long-term service of retiring pair Dave Hirons and Keith Chapman before handing over the tenure to vice-captain Brian Brockhurst.

Treasurer Rob Doney reported a healthy financial position and said subscriptions would remain unchanged for 2014. Next came elections for the outstanding committee positions: captain - Brian Brockhurst elected; vice-captain - Sam Howes; fixtures secretary - Ralph Fanshawe; competitions secretary - Bill Hummerston. All were elected unanimously.

Brockhurst said his chosen charity for 2014 would be prostate cancer research.

There followed a nine-hole competition, with Father Christmas distributing mince pies on the course, and players were greeted with mulled wine on their return to the clubhouse.

Leading scores: 1 Jan de Vries 20pts; 2 David Tilley 19; 3 John Newman 18.
