Brighton take title - but Chichester athletes run them close

editorial image

A brave fight by Chichester’s junior and senior runners in this year’s Sussex cross-country championships could not prevent Brighton & Hove from reversing last year’s result and claiming back the title of team of the year.

Last year Chichester posted a new record score of 130 team points but this was surpassed by Brighton’s 143 thanks largely to a dominant display from their veterans when they won four out of the five races at Lancing Manor.

Chichester’s juniors just failed to retain their crown by the narrow margin of four points from Brighton but were delighted by their four team medals, including gold from the under-15 boys and under-17 women.

These were added to by the mens over-50s and over-60s in the Sussex masters to ensure the club once again surpassed the 100-point mark and finished as worthy runners-up to cement their place as one of the top two distance clubs in the county.
