Bognor beaten by the weather - twice over

At the Regis Oval, Slinfold won the toss and elected to bowl. This appeared to be a good decision after the early loss of both openers.

However, combative Aussie batsman Sam Taylor had other ideas, plundering a lusty 127, and was ably supported by mercurial skipper Elliott Clarke who made a fine and breezy 58. With Bognor ending on 229 for six, they were well in the driving seat.

Unfortunately, the forecast rain came to bring the game to an abrupt end and the match was abandoned.

In the second XIs’ clash at Slinfold, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Dave Wilding carried his bat for an unbeaten 138 not out.

With support from Guy Duhig (53), Slinfold declared on 278 for four, Bognor seamer Louis Paul the pick of the attack taking three for 60, all being caught by Bognor’s zesty wicketkeeper Harry Hood.

A decent 81-run opening partnership between veteran opener Ricky McIntosh (34) and Paul (41) saw Bognor away nicely but their departures saw Bognor have a brief wobble to move to 131 for four.

The elements conspired to bring a good game to a premature end.
