Bognor v Haywards Heath
Sussex League division two
On a fine day at the Regis Oval, Haywards Heath put Bognor in but they began with a decent opening partnership between Elliott Clarke (42) and young Mikey Harris (22).
South African powerhouse Zayne Bux carried it on with a fine 58 and with 20 overs to go Bognor were in a good position. The stage was set for youngsters Ryan Maskell and Louis Paul to take the attack to Hayward’s Heath, both making 40 in quick time and Maskell hooking a fine six on to the scorer’s hut.
Bognor ended on 229 for eight.
In reply Bognor’s pacemen went about their business brightly with the zesty Charlie La Foret (1-35) and Graham Bush taking out Heath’s openers.
Fine support was given by Jim Lee and spin twins Joe Ashmore (2-31) and Elliott Clarke (1-41) but the charge for victory was delayed by a bright 81 from Jethro Menzies.
Bush returned to finish with three for 33 but with Heath’s tail holding firm, the game ended in a draw with the visitors on 195 for eight.
Slinfold 2nd v Bognor 2nd
Sussex 2nd XI div three west
Bognor chose to field and Josh Broad and Andy Lee took a wicket apiece to give Bognor a bright start. In reply, Slinfold’s Dave Wilding made a fine 68 and Richard Harris 32 – but with the veteran Lee taking wickets regularly, the hosts’ reply was checked.
Support for Lee came from Adam Evans, who on debut took an excellent three for 31. With Lee taking four for 43, Slinfold finished on 204 for eight.
The response from Bognor was steady and after both openers went early, wicketkeeper Harry Hood laid solid foundations for the team to support.
Slinfold’s Mubassar Hussain took a well-bowled four for 65 and with Bognor tickling towards their target, any result was possible. However, with wickets falling regularly, the game ended in a draw with Bognor on 187 for nine, Hood making an excellent 77 not out.
