Aldwick cricketers ready for another busy year

Aldwick CC members were able to reflect on a very successful 2012 at their recent annual meeting.

The 2012 season saw the firt XI win division four of the West Sussex Invitation league and the second XI gain promotion from division eight.

Club stalwarts John Heredge and Mick Fredricks, both with more than 50 years of being involved with the club, have stood down as as president and treasurer respectively.

Another club stalwart, Dave Robinson, who has 35 years’ involvement with the club, takes over as president, while Chris Redman takes on the treasurer’s job. Jim Smith remains as chairman and secretary.

Robinson’s aim is to lead the club on to the next successful era.

For the 2013 season the club are in the process of negoiating a lease on the ground, which hopefully will allow the club to develop their clubhouse and facilities.

On the pitch, prolific batsman Joel Lodge, who was the league’s leading run scorer last season, steps up from vice-captain to skipper the first XI, while experienced cricketer Grant Wilson steps down from the first XI to skipper the seconds.

On Sundays the club will run two teams again. Ollie Smith skippers the first Sunday XI while Dion Sampson continues with the Acorns, the youth development team.

The club also have a full midweek 20/20 fixture list with about 20 games. Ian Guppy continues as skipper of this team.

The club will be going on their annual week’s tour. This year they are going back to the Isle of Wight at the end of June. They already have six games booked in seven days on the island.

Indoor nets will start at Game Set and Match in Chichester on Sunday, February 3, from 10am until midday and run through to April.
