Time to be taken seriously

As a member of the Bognor Regis Regeneration sub-committee I feel compelled to write following the meeting held on Wednesday, November 7, to consider the petition to protect the Picturedrome from all competition.

Although I fully appreciate the concern of nearly 11,000 residents from across the district who signed the petition, however they did so without being told the real facts.

The brutal but real truth is that if ADC accepts this petition, there will be no regeneration of Bognor Regis.

Let me repeat that so everyone can understand me: without a new cinema to anchor the regeneration of the Regis site and provide additional footfall for London Road and the High Street, there will be NO regeneration, NO to a new theatre, NO to 400 new jobs, NO to new cafés, bars and a hotel, NO to improved shopping, just nothing to show for years of negotiation and investment by you and me, the taxpayers of Bognor Regis and Arun.

All I ever hear from the Civic Society are complaints and nothing to support and promote regeneration.

If you want to replace the current regeneration schemes with your own scheme, then do so.

Go and raise the £40m that is needed – it’s that easy!

Only then will you be taken seriously by those who want regeneration in Bognor Regis and only then will you be seen to support the silent majority of people in Bognor Regis and Arun and not just the few who attend your meetings.
