Thoughts on Bognor’s future

At last we’ve a chance to see things happening in Bognor.

We need to grab this opportunity with both hands.

My thoughts on Bognor’s future, Modwen, ADC and Bognor Regis Town Council are as follows:

New buildings –

On the Regis Centre site it would be good to see facilities such as entertainment areas, seating and windbreaks to allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy the sea views all year round.

I’m looking forward to seeing cafes, restaurants, shops, amusement arcades, a cinema, theatre, multi-use rooms, hotel and bars. Please use style and design that will stand the test of time.

Hothamton –

Why not a tower if we are having flats and a shop? Create something that’s got a wow factor built-in.

Sunken gardens –

Could these be used for events, displays, shows etc so that more people could enjoy the recently-enhanced gardens?

Build a stage in there with a temporary cover.

Parking and use of roads –

Remove the double yellow lines from one side of many town-centre roads and introduce a one-way system and chevron parking along one side.

An example could be to make the seafront one-way travelling eastwards, High Street to be re-opened with traffic flow westwards, chevron parking could be introduced along Gloucester Road.

Introduce a park and ride system based north of the new drive-in McDonald’s.

Seafront / Esplanade –

Building facilities such as seated areas and windbreaks along the promenade, make the promenade an all-round good experience with cafés / restaurants at both ends of the promenade.

The Picturedrome could have multiple uses:

n Run the four parishes from it and turn the smaller rooms into the council chambers and offices – this would mean we would no longer have to pay rent to ADC of (rumour has it) about £25,000 a year and could pay off our loan for the Picturedrome.

n Use the main hall as a much-needed community hall for the four parishes of Bognor.

It could be used for many community and commercial activities.

n If there is to be a referendum on whether to continue to use the Picturedrome as a cinema or not to use it at all, why not introduce the above as a third option?
