LETTER: Democracy out of the window

I have received some clarification about the Bosham referendum from the parish council and this confirms my fears that this is just an attempt to receive the extra ten per cent levy from developers and give themselves a free hand in deciding where the housing will be (Cala Homes proposals?).

I quote: “The plan has no site allocations for the 50 houses required, this allocation will be found on the CDC Site Allocation Document. The plan lays down policy for thedevelopment of the 50 houses.

“The CDC document currently shows Highgrove as the the preferred site for the 50 new houses.”

But the red document sent to residents says voting for the NP does not mean that you are voting in favour of Highgrove.

Similarly voting against the NP does not mean that the Highgrove Farm development will not proceed.

So we are now being asked to choose between nothing and nothing. Democracy out of the window once more and at the cost of an expensive referendum (our rates).

Perhaps a spokesperson will now clarify what the purpose of the referendum really is.
