Further to the letter regarding Hugh Coster and the Bognor Regis Civic Society’s role in opposing the St Modwen regeneration, AR Dove accused me of being bullying and arrogant, which I have to challenge.
I wrote my letter as an elected councillor and cabinet member, and as such I have democratic legitimacy and a mandate to speak for and on behalf of the residents of Arun district and it is my duty to warn the town of the importance of the coming decisions regarding regeneration.
The Bognor Regis Civic Society does not have any democratic legitimacy because they will not publish their constitution, their election results and the numbers of residents they represent.
I have tried to join, but have been refused.
Bognor Regis has a VERY IMPORTANT decision to make, a very stark choice: it’s basically down to whether the town wants £40m of inward private investment or not?
St Modwen can if they wish invest in many other towns who are welcoming them with open arms, any type of investment in the current straitened economic times is a rare and precious opportunity that should not be squandered.
If Mr Coster had his way, he would lead Bognor Regis to ten years of economic malaise.
I urge everyone who wants regeneration of the town and 200-plus new jobs to vote in favour of the scheme.
