RECENTLY Arun District Council has recognised improvements to Bognor’s transport links to the A27 are vital to the regeneration of the town and the success of the planned enterprise zone. They have also agreed that this can best be obtained by improvements to the A29 with a bridge over the railway.
To study the options they employed a team of expert consultants who not only arrived
at a preferred route but demonstrated in detail how it could be built and funded
This can be found at www.arun.gov.uk/main.cfm?type=BACKGROUNDSTUDIES#Transport
It is therefore a little surprising to find that Arun, in their draft local plan, have opted for an alternative route that will take the traffic into the heart of Eastergate along the Barnham road and involve moving the war memorial.
Providing this new link will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and getting it right is essential.
Therefore before putting their draft local plan out for public consultation the council needs
to explain its transport plan in greater detail and show beyond doubt why their chosen route though the centre of the villages is preferable to that suggested by the consultants.
