WEATHER: Chichester battered by extreme wind and rain

HEAVY wind and rain pummelled the area last night, following the Met Office’s yellow warning yesterday afternoon.

A fallen tree on the line at Durrington-on-Sea has caused delays on the railway between Worthing and Barnham this morning (October 23) and there are several delays on the rail network.

On the roads, Sussex Police said there was heavy flooding throughout the area.

Tangmere Road, in Chichester, was disrupted by water more than one foot deep.

Meanwhile, buildings on the Portfield Industrial Estate have been affected by heavy flooding on the roads.

Woodlands Lane in Chichester was impassable because of flooding.

A large tree was blocking the westbound lane of the A285 at Halnaker after it came down overnight.

There is also flooding on the A27 and South Pallant and the East Pallant car park are also flooded.

Sussex Police said to take care and advise them of any issues by calling 101.
