Three people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A23 this morning (Friday April 22).

Part of the road was closed after two lorries collided on the northbound carriageway between Pyecombe and Hickstead at around 10am, police said.

Three fire crews were sent to the scene along with two paramedic cars and three ambulances. Police also attended.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said three people were treated at the scene.

A spokesman said two of the patients were put on ‘longboards’ and were given neck braces as a precaution.

All three were fully conscious and able to leave their vehicles, the spokesman added.

They were taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton for further checks. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, SECAmb said.

Northbound traffic is being diverted off at the junction with the B2118, leading to Albourne and Hurstpierpoint.

Police have warned the road will remain closed until 2pm whilst the vehicles are recovered.
