UPDATE: Emergency at recreation ground is '˜medical incident'

Sussex Police has confirmed that the emergency at a popular recreation ground is a '˜medical incident'.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said that they were called about the emergency at just before 4.30pm and sent officers to the scene, when it was confirmed to be a ‘medical incident’. They didn’t confirm how many people were involved or whether it was a fatality.

They said that officers were there to make sure it was safe for the helicopter from Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to land.

Jamie Cheshire from the air ambulance service said they were contacted about the incident at just before 4.40pm.

The incident had been logged as a case of exposure, he said, but it could not be confirmed yet whether this was exposure to fire, smoke or water.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
