University department is up for a top industry gong

STAFF at the University of Chichester are in the running for a national award for helping students through their degrees.

The institution’s Support and Information Zone, which provides a broad set of services to more than 6,000 people, has been shortlisted for a competition led by the Times Higher Education magazine.

The 26-strong department, which is based across the Chichester and Bognor Regis campuses, is pitted against five universities for Outstanding Student Services Team at the awards, which will be held in London on Tuesday.

University vice-chancellor Professor Clive Behagg said: “I am outrageously proud that our Support and Information Zone has been shortlisted for this national award.

“The team was established just two years ago as a radical new way of delivering services to our students.

“We know what a wonderful job they do, but it is great to have it recognised nationally and, whatever the outcome,
we are going to have a good night at the awards in London.”
