Conservatives retain control of West Sussex County Council

UKIP members are celebrating as they made their electoral breakthrough across Bognor Regis.

The party has won four seats on a day of unprecedented success for it in the area.

The triumphs made UKIP the largest party on West Sussex County Council in the seven electoral divisions around Bognor.

UKIP now has four county councillors representing the Bognor area compared to two for the Conservatives and a single Liberal Democrat.

Before polling, the Conservatives had four seats and the Lib Dems three.

The successes for UKIP came in Bersted, Felpham, Middleton and Nyetimber.

The election count, which took place in the Arun Leisure Centre, started around 10.55am and finished just after 1pm.
