Rail signalling work started on major line

RESIGNALLING work has begun on the railway line between Bognor Regis and London.

Network Rail has started the project to install the modern colour lights on the Arun Valley route.

The scheme will renew all the signalling between Christ’s Hospital and Amberley.

It should be finished towards the end of this year.

The line will then be controlled from the existing Three Bridges control centre.

West Sussex Rail Users’ Association membership secretary Trevor Tupper said the work should benefit passengers along the important line.

The modern lights would increase the route’s capacity and increase its reliability.

The association would also urge Southern to speed up its services between the coast and capital once the replacement was completed, he stated in the group’s latest newsletter.

But he warned weekend disruption was to be expected.
