DIGGERS will move into the Bognor Regis shopping precinct early next year.
They will pave the way for a new £600,000 look for the town’s retail heart.
The current dated precinct will be replaced by new paving, planting and street furniture which has been chosen to withstand the harsh marine environment.
Cast stone and timber benches, cycle racks and bins, as well as trees and new street lighting columns are included in the designs. The improvements should be finished by next spring.
Arun District Council leader Gillian Brown said: “This is a fantastic scheme that will enhance and improve London Road shopping along the precinct. I am delighted it will soon be under way.
“Arun is committed to improving the shopping and leisure experience in Bognor and is pushing forward with many plans to make this happen.”
The detailed plans for the improvements will soon be available to be viewed. Arun, Bognor and West Sussex councils are putting £250,000 towards the scheme. The rest of the funding is coming from various sources.
The designs are based on ideas which received decisive support from the public last March.
