THANKS have been given to hard-working staff who made sure beaches in Bognor Regis were kept in tip-top condition over the summer.
Congratulations have been passed to the people who help keep Arun’s beaches clean and safe after a successful summer season.
The chairman of Arun District Council, Terence Chapman, and his deputy, Cllr Dougal Machonachie, have met Arun’s foreshore and cleansing staff and contractors who work on the district’s award-winning coastline after this summer’s sunny weather saw it packed with visitors week in and week out.
Cllr Chapman said: “I would like to convey my thanks to everyone who has been working so hard and with great enthusiasm to provide residents, visitors and their families with such a fantastic experience on Arun’s beaches this summer.
“We have been extremely lucky with the weather over the school holidays and it is a credit to the council and its contractors that we have been able to deliver this wonderful service to the thousands of people who travel to the district’s award-winning beaches, parks and nearby attractions and events each year.”
Arun’s foreshore inspectors are fully trained to deal with accidents and emergencies on the beaches and operate a Kid Care armband scheme to quickly reunite lost children with their families.
The team works in partnership with the council’s cleansing staff and contractors Biffa, who help keep our coastline clean.
The town’s Seaside Award-winning beach received a welcome boost with the reopening of the Gloucester Road launching ramp, thanks to the partnership working of Arun District Council and Bognor Regis Town Council.
Its seafront park, Marine Park Gardens and nearby Hotham Park in Bognor Regis also proudly fly green flags.
Bognor Regis seasonal foreshore inspector Mick Loveland said: “It’s great to work in an outdoors job, dealing daily with the public on a face-to-face basis.
“We are able to advise and assist them on a wide variety of issues from lost and found children, local accommodation, visitor amenities, tidal information and beach safety.
“It’s a really worthwhile role that we all enjoy doing to the very best of our abilities.”
