A train, a tank and a drum were among the winning toys recycled from rubbish by Rose Green Infant School pupils.

More than 140 of the playtime fun ideas were submitted by the children on the eco school’s day of action.

Deputy headteacher Caroline Sugden said: “Making a toy out of recycled material re-inforces our work as an eco school as the children can re-use items that would usually be thrown away. Children could use an egg box, can, plastic bottle or cardboard box.”

The winners were - Reception: Lewis Hawes (train); Lily Hume (watch); Ben Inskip (SpongeBob);Year 1: Aaron Butcher (tank); Elissa Collins (giraffe); Joshua Newton (house).Year 2: Sophie Brindley (picnic set); Ellie Parker (Ellie’s show); Lance Fox-Coopey (drum).
