FIFTY walkers have trekked 50 miles carrying 50lb each to raise funds for a charity supporting wounded Royal Marines.
Help Our Wounded (HOW) aims to raise funds in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
On Saturday (September 29) and Sunday (September 30), fundraisers walked from Brighton Pier to the Royal Marines Museum, in Southsea, for the 50/50 Yomp.
They spent their overnight stop at the Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park.
Posting on the groups’s Facebook page on Monday, organisers said: “The gods where certainly on Help Our Wounded’s side this weekend as regards to the weather – we where very lucky.
“More important than this though was the 50/50 Yompers and our supporters that made me have one of the best weekends amongst the finest of people.
“Thank you to all the Yompers for your hard work, determination and guts to take on this challenge, it wasn’t easy but was made special just by having you there.
“It goes without saying that if we didn’t have the support that we did, then this all event would not have been possible.”
Particular thanks were offered to Jimmy Jukes, from UK Homes 4 Heroes, Dez Northover, Hugh McKenna, Julie Hutton, Michelle Thorpe, David Rhys Lewis, Mal Storey, the Royal Marines Museum, Brighton City Council and Fort Cumberland Group.
As well as raising funds, walkers were also aiming to raise awareness of the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War.
A final fund-raising total is not yet known but it is believed more than £25,000 may have been raised in sponsorship and collections.
