AN ANNUAL commemoration of the Battle of Britain will take place in Bognor Regis later this month.
The service will take place a week later this usual to because of the heavy involvement of the town’s RAFA branch and Air Training Corps squadron in the Goodwood Revival.
This means the service will be held at 10.30am on September 22 at the Methodist Church on Waterloo Square.
It will be conducted by the Rev Brian Shersby, the RAFA padre, and will be preceded by a parade from the RAFA Club at 10am from the opposite side of the square.
David Hewings, the RAFA branch’s spokesman, said: “This year’s service will mark the often-forgotten contribution the Royal Navy made directly to the aerial battle.
“A significant number of ‘The Few’ were pilots from the RN’s Fleet Air Arm and many were killed in action during the battle and subsequently when serving in the RAF into which they had been drafted.”
Bognor’s MP Nick Gibb and other civic dignitaries will take a salute from the parade at the pier after the service. Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
