A SLINDON pupil showed riding and writing for pleasure is a winning combination.

Chloe Gibbard, ten, took first place in a junior writing competition about the Olympics.

The keen horserider compiled an article in which she imagined taking part in the equestrian events at the London games this summer.

Judges at the Rotary Club of Arundel were impressed with her imaginative piece of prose and presented her with a Book Plate and book tokens.

The contest’s three age groups were open to all schools in the Rotary club’s area.

Slindon C of E Primary School headteacher Jane Walters, where Chloe is a Year 5 pupil, praised the youngsters and said: “We are very proud of Chloe and her success in this competition.

“We are very excited that her piece of writing has now been entered for the district heats and wish her luck in this next stage of the competition.”

Chloe’s work will be up against those from the winners at schools in Sussex and Surrey.

The poetry and prose entries were based on topics of Olympic Dreams or Olympic Spirit.
