A TEENAGE schoolgirl walking to school in Bognor Regis was approached by strangers today (Thursday, March 19).
The 14-year-old girl was going along Victoria Drive around 8am when she was approached by two men in a car whom she believed wanted her to go with them.
She described it as a small, dark-coloured car. Sussex Police said no physical attempt was made to get the girl into the vehicle and, while the men’s intentions were unknown, the girl nevertheless felt frightened.
Detective Constable Ceri Spratt, of West Sussex CID, said: “This sort of incident is still very rare in Sussex and we would not want to cause unnecessary alarm.
“But it’s perhaps timely for parents and schools to remind children of ‘stranger danger’ and advise them to be wary of any unusual approaches such as this.
“Meanwhile, anyone who may have witnessed the incident in Victoria Drive or who may have other relevant information is asked to contact police by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 101, quoting serial 198 of 19/3.”
People can also contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, without having to leave their name on 0800 555 111.
