Scam warning is repeated after crimes

POLICE have repeated a warning to residents across the area to be mindful of scammers.

Officers have repeated their advice following incidents in other areas.

The scams have seen residents contacted and asked to withdraw large sums from their bank accounts.

In one incident, a couple were called by a fraudster posing as a Metropolitan police officer and on another occasion victims were called by someone saying he was a police officer and they needed to withdraw money and hand it over to a courier who would be calling at their address.

Officers want to reinforce that under no circumstances would a police officer or
bank contact residents in this way.

Anyone who has any suspicions about a call, should not use the phone they have just been called on to contact the police or their bank.

If possible, use another phone to report concerns or to contact a friend or relative to alert them.

Anyone who has received similar calls to the ones described above, or knows of someone who has, is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or alternatively phone 101, quoting Operation Edisto.
