Rain didn’t dampen spirits at Aldwick summer fair

RAIN failed to dampen spirits at an Aldwick seafront beauty spot’s first summer fair.

The Marine Park Gardens event last Tuesday was still a success in spite of the wet weather in the morning.

The fair was staged by Arun District Council.

Its senior community parks officer, Helen Wilson, ensured the gardens’ 1930s shelters were full of stalls.

They raised money for the Friends of the gardens as well as groups such as Aldwick Preservation Society and Bognor Regis Local History Society. Open air drama was performed by Root and Branch theatre.

Friends’ chairman David Garforth said: “It has been a good day. We’ve had over a hundred people but there would have been a mass of people here if the weather was better.”

Ms Wilson said: “We want to have an annual event in the gardens to draw attention to its attractions.”
