A CHARITY race day has been declared a galloping success.

Arun District Council’s vice-chairman Andy Cooper hosted a charity race day at Fontwell Park Racecourse to raise funds for West Sussex Music – the chairman’s chosen charity for his year in office.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day and I would like to thank all the sponsors and those that donated prizes to our raffle and helped us raise money for the chosen charity. I am now looking forward to planning our next fundraiser,” said Cllr Cooper.

The event was held last Wednesday at Fontwell Racecourse. A raffle and a bucket collection, matched pound for pound by Barclays, raised £975 and included prizes donated by West Sussex Music, L Guess Jewellers, Fontwell Park Racecourse, Virgin Active, Rustington and Butlins, Bognor Regis.

James Underwood, the chief executive of West Sussex Music said: “I would like to thank Arun District Council for orchestrating such a successful day.

“It was great for us to meet with those that generously sponsored the event and it was the perfect opportunity to showcase West Sussex Music and raise money for our charitable work with harder to reach children.”

Event sponsors included ISS Landscaping Global Technologies Racing, Piglets Pantry and the Arun Business Partnership, along with Inspire Leisure and Bay Tree Estates.
