Police crack down on bad behaviour in Rose Green

WARNING letters have been sent to up 15 youths about their behaviour on a Rose Green estate.

The letters are the early stage of a process which could lead to the young people receiving ASBOs if they refuse to change their antics on the Willowhale Estate.

PCSO Bill Prior said the anti-social behaviour was centred around the library and Grove House Surgery.

“There were about 12 of them when I arrived this evening,” he told Aldwick parish councillors on Monday.

“They quickly went away when they saw me. Ten to 15 letters have gone from Arun District Council’s anti-social behaviour team at the police station to these kids. Hopefully, that will calm them down.

“The letters get sent to their mums and dads. Some of the letters are the second ones to be sent.

“After that, the youngsters have to sign an acceptable behaviour contract in the police station. An anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) is a last resort.

“The system does work. The ASBO stops them mixing with their friends and going into certain areas of town. If they get caught, they are arrested and can end up in a young offenders’ institute. It’s not just a Mickey Mouse thing.”

Anti-climbing paint was also being used to limit the impact of the youths’ behaviour, he said.

Cllr Molly Myers said the council had received a lot of complaints about the situation.
