Plans come into effect after vote

PLANS which set out future development for Yapton and Bersted have been formally adopted.

The areas’ neighbourhood plans were nodded through by Arun district councillors last week to come into effect.

This means their policies will be taken into account by Arun when it decides on planning applications.

Last Wednesday’s decision was watched by Yapton parish councillor Andy Faulkner who was involved in the village’s neighbourhood plan from the start.

He said: “Everybody involved with the plan has done a tremendous job. There has only been a small group, with an average of 12 members, and it is good for the village that it has this plan.

“It looks to the future and gives us some protection against development.”

As reported, both plans were backed by residents in referendums last month.

The plans also had to be checked by an independent qualified person.
