Hundreds of people laced up their running shoes to take part in the most colourful event ever seen in Chichester - raising some £30,000 in the process.

On Sunday (November 1) the city turned into a kaleidoscopic rainbow of colours as runners of all ages got involved with a colour run hosted by St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

The first ever colour run in Chichester, more than 500 runners and walkers took part in the 2k, 5k and 10k distances around the grounds of Chichester College.

Participants made their way across the start line and through the first colour station.

The colour runners were then covered with a shower of orange powder paint and were doused in more colours as they continued round the course, before arriving at the finish line and joining in the final carnival to become a human multi-coloured masterpiece.

The event was supported by former Hollyoaks stars Danny Mac and Carley Stenson.

Danny, who is a patron of St Wilfrid’s, grew up in Bognor Regis and his mum, Jan, has been a nurse at the Hospice for over 13 years.

Danny said: “What a great day.

“It was fantastic to see so many supporters, having a great time and raising money for such an excellent cause.

“The run was such good fun - we got completely covered from head to foot in colour – it’s definitely something we’ll do again!”

Brighton-based duo Alex Clifton and Simon Stewart, also know as ‘Steel Strum’, were also on hand on the day to provide live musical entertainment for spectators and participants.

The pair stepped in at the eleventh hour to entertain the crowds.

It costs St Wilfrid’s more than £18,000 every day to provide their vital services, with staff looking after more than 230 people at any one time around the community.
