PHIL PACKER 2012 Miles...A warm welcome from the north

I have now hit the 111th day of the BRIT 2012 Challenge and I am currently in the north east of England and have 1,180 miles left to go. Over the past week on the road I have had the opportunity to walk at special schools in Redcar and Middlesbrough, schools in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham University, Darlington Rugby Club and with the Scout Association in Hartlepool. The warm welcome from the north has been fantastic.

Since last writing in our Observer, Mark Wood, explorer and BRIT mentor, has completed the first unsupported and unaided attempt on both the Magnetic North and South Pole. Mark kindly took a picture at both locations with the BRIT flag to show ‘Everything is possible’. Congratulations to Mark and many thanks for being an inspirational BRIT mentor to our young people.

For a more local challenge, I have one for all of our Sussex schools, colleges and universities. It is not too late to join in the BRIT 2012 Challenge. My challenge to you is, by walking or wheelchair pushing, to complete 2,012 miles together as a team by mid-December 2012. With more than six months to go until the end of the year, all you have to do is register for free and enter the challenge.

By doing so, you have the opportunity to win £2,012 for your organisation! By taking part, you would be joining me in acknowledging there are young people who need our support.

There is no fundraising, this is purely to join me and complete 2,012 miles for young people. Details are online at www.britishinspirationtrust.org.uk

n If you are a school or special school in West Sussex, do let me know if you want me to come and visit you this year as I need to walk when I am back in West Sussex to continue accruing the Challenge miles every day. Walking with young people at schools in the county is great.

Please contact Sally Arnold, BRIT Coordination Officer to arrange a visit at sally@britishinspirationtrust.org.uk

Best wishes,

Phil
