An application has been submitted to build 57 new homes in Westergate.
TCPlanning has made a bid to build a mixture of flats and houses on land east of Orchard Gardens which is outside of the Development Plan.
The outline planning application would include 30 per cent affordable homes and the developer has said it would be a ‘natural extension of Westergate with minimal impact on its surroundings’.
However a number of neighbouring residents don’t agree. One official objection states: “I strongly object to the proposal as it does not take into consideration the local residents.
“There is clearly serious traffic congestion due to the train crossing and having another road added to this would make access near impossible.”
Of the 57 proposed units, 17 would be affordable, and would be a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and three and two-bedroom houses, spread around the site.
Despite the land being outside of Arun District Council’s Local Plan, the developer says it would make a contribution to the acknowledged shortfall of housing provision.
“This housing can be developed immediately to help meet those targets,” the planning statement said. “This site can be developed without any significant adverse impact on the existing road network.”
