Money set aside to pay for new bins

JUST OVER £70,000 is to be spent by Arun District Council on new bins.

The council’s cabinet agreed on Monday to create a new budget to pay for the recycling, litter and dog waste bins.

Cllr Gillian Brown, Arun’s leader, said after the meeting: “We’ve never had a budget before.

“All these recycling bins are completely unsustainable.

“We are now going to have a rolling programme of replacement for dog, litter and recycling bins. Hopefully, we will not have the complaints we have had before.”

She said she hoped bigger litter and dog waste bins would be bought.

A report to the cabinet by Philippa Dart, Arun’s assistant director of environmental services, said there was no more money for bins. The council had been using various budgets to replace damaged bins and provide recycling bins at £22 each to new properties.

But this led to waits of ten to 12 weeks and hit the council’s recycling figures.
