Man rescued from North Bersted flat fire

A MAN was rescued by firefighters today (Friday, December 5) after a fire in a ground-floor flat in Bersted.

Crews from Bognor, Chichester and Littlehampton were called to a three-storey block of flats at the junction of Hazel Road and Durlston Drive shortly after 8am.

They led the man to safety and extinguished the blaze.

Up to 30 per cent of the flat was damaged by the fire with the remainder damaged by heat and smoke.

Around half of the ground-floor communal corridor was also damaged by heat and smoke.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews left the scene shortly after 9.15am.
