Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Pagham on Sunday which left a man with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to Harbour View Road at around 1.40am on May 1, to a report that a 41-year-old woman from London had fallen in the road, suffering minor injuries.

Two men, a 35-year-old from Bognor Regis and a 32-year-old from London, went to help her but were then hit by a car which did not stop, Sussex Police said.

The 35-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The 32-year-old man was taken to Southampton Hospital where he remains in a critical condition, the statement added.

According to police, a 39-year-old man from Bognor has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a license, driving without insurance, failing to stop after a road accident and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed until 29 June.

Sergeant Richard Hornsey of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We would like to speak with anyone who saw something suspicious in the area.

“Witnesses can email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Wickford.”
