Yee-ha! School goes wild at summer fete

The wild West came to Fittleworth with a specially-themed annual summer fete at the first school.

Most children and many of their parents and friends dressed for the occasion and there was live music provided by the Wild West Sussex Stetsons.

"The musicians added to what was a fun-filled, sociable family atmosphere," said headteacher Graham Bloomfield.

A chuck wagon fed all the hungry mouths and the saloon served up cold drinks.

Highlights included a mechanical bucking bronco, line dancing involving all the children, an auction, which included lively bidding for 'headteacher for a day', and the ever-popular Gunge the Governor.

This year gunge enthusiasts also got the chance to gunge their obliging headteacher, Mr Bloomfield.

Recovered from the ordeal, he said: "The 3,000 raised seems almost a bonus as the day was so successful in so many other ways.

"It was a real family occasion with children, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, neighbours and friends.

"I would like to publicly thank Kirstie Holliday-Williams and her dedicated committee for all their hard work in planning and organising the day."
