What could your group do with £1,000 donation?

What could your group or charity do with £1,000? Would it enable that special project you've been dreaming of to finally go ahead?

Would it allow you to open your group to many more people – and to offer better facilities? Would it make the difference between your group carrying on, or having to close?

Volunteers in this part of the country already make a tremendous contribution to community life, but often there's no substitute for hard cash.

And that's where we can help.

The Observer has teamed up with Chandlers Building Supplies in Petworth to launch a fantastic new Community Fund project, which aims to help and support local charities, projects and organisations.

The Chandlers team will be giving something back to the community they have been a part of for the past 18 years by offering a cash sum every month for the rest of the year to local organisations who need a bit of help.

Perhaps your community garden needs a makeover, your school needs some new sports equipment, your charity needs some extra support or your playgroup needs some new toys. Whatever your cause, we would like to hear about it.

To launch this great new project, a magnificent 1,000 will up for grabs. After that, Chandlers will be offering 500 a month to the best project.

So how do you get a chance to get your hands on the cash?

Simply get in touch with us, telling us how you would use the money, what difference it would make to your group, and why you should win it.

We will publish a shortlist of the best three nominations – and readers will vote which one should receive the donation.

Steven Webber, the branch manager at Chandlers, said: "There are so many fantastic organisations and charities around the area that deserve some extra support and we would like them to come forward and tell us how we can help.

"To give the campaign a great start, for the first month we will be awarding the chosen group a fantastic 1,000."

He added: "The Community Fund is something brand new for us and we are all so excited about how the money donated will be able to help local projects."

Charities and groups can nominate themselves for the award.

Colin Channon, the editor of the Observer, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer such a fantastic sum of money to groups until the end of the year.

"We are indebted to Chandlers to enable us to make this happen and together to be able to make such a difference to local groups.

"I am confident each month our readers will choose the most deserving cause to receive the money."
