HOUSING intended to replace a garage in Walberton village centre has been rejected for being too cramped.
The scheme of six three-bedroom homes on the site of Turnpike Motors in The Street has been refused planning permission.
Arun District Council planning officer Anita Gardner said the proposal by Mr GR Anscombe would have an unacceptable impact in the village-centre conservation area.
“The detailing of the units is critical to ensure that they make a positive contribution to the appearance of the conservation area.
“The provision of dormer windows and porches are of a design that is alien in this location which contribute to a relatively-modern appearance to the dwelling and detract from the appearance of the area.”
The sizes of some rooms in the proposed three sets of semi-detached houses, and their gardens, were also small compared to the standards set out in the council’s emerging local plan, said Mrs Gardner in her decision report.
