FIGURES from Labour’s southern taskforce have shown the average house price in Bognor Regis is 13.6 times the average wage.
The statistics from the political body state workers in the town take home £16,830 a year compared to the average property price of £228,245.
The annual pay also compares poorly to the national average of £22,199.
A spokesman said: “This government isn’t making things any easier. David Cameron has broken his promise to get Britain Building and has failed to tackle the acute housing shortage here in the south and east.
“But the Labour Party knows we need to tackle the housing crisis by increasing the number of new homes built to at least 200,000 a year by 2020.”
A housing commission would be set up by a new Labour government on its first day to achieve this by giving councils that want to expand a ‘right to grow’ with access to a fast-track planning process.
Councils will also get stronger compulsory purchase powers.
