VOTE: Posters ensure colourful entrance to resort town

COLOURFUL images of Bognor Regis have been installed along one of its main entrances.

Three vivid photographs provide a brighter welcome to drivers heading south on the A29 Shripney Road.

They have been installed on the large hoardings outside part of the former Lec site.

Among them is a shot of the clowns, supplied by the Bognor Regis Observer, to symbolise the fun of the town's annual events.

Another photograph – by Jamie Denyer – shows the Picturedrome cinema to represent the town. The third view sums up the seafront by capturing some swingboats along the promenade. It was taken by Mark Bradford.

Nik Raof Daud, the director of site-owner Sime Darby London, said: "We are very grateful they have agreed to donate their work for this use.

"Their images will be seen by hundreds, if not thousands, of people who pass by the former Lec site everyday."

The company chose to promote the work of local photographers as part of its commitment to the town's regeneration developer and partner charter.

The photographs were put up last week (FEB 11) to replace the original paintings which were installed in June 2009 soon after the 4.8m x 4.8m hoardings were put up.

Sime Darby agreed to the four large panels to help disguise the increasingly-derelict state of the one-time busy fridge and freezer factory.

The fourth panel continues to display the Bognor Regis regeneration symbol created by Arun District Council designer Julie Goldsmith.

Before the summer, Sime Darby intends to renew the panels again.

Any community group or organisation which would like to get involved should contact Sime Darby through its www.simedarby.co.uk website.

The Lec site will be the focus of an eight-day public inquiry from May 11 when Sainsbury's plans to build a large store there are debated in front of an inspector.
