SPECTATORS on Pagham beach enjoyed a display by the Selsey and Littlehampton lifeboats last night (August 6), alongside the coastguard rescue helicopter.
The annual exercise brought out all the local lifeboats as the rescue teams showed off their skills.
Coastguards were being lowered down onto the lifeboats, and picked up again, to show what can happen if a casualty is picked up in the water. With hundreds of people watching the spectacle, the volunteer crews then came to shore to enjoy a buffet and a drink.
But festivities were brought to a halt when a call came in about a missing swimmer at Bognor beach.
The Littlehampton land coastguard and one of the Selsey lifeboats rushed to the scene, but were eventually stood down, and able to continue the evening.
