A CYCLIST from Bognor Regis is in a critical condition in hospital after a collision.
The 61-year-old woman was seriously injured in the road traffic accident yesterday, Thursday, July 10.
She was flown by the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with serious head injuries.
The accident happened about 2.45pm on Nyetimber Lane near its junction with Nyetimber Close.
She was riding a black Giant 6000 pedal cycle when it was in collision with a white Fiat Panda car being driven by an 84-year-old man from Bognor.
The car driver was unhurt. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until 1 September while enquiries continue.
The road was closed to traffic either side of the scene for some two hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Sergeant Rob Baldwin, of the West Sussex Road Policing Unit, said: “We are grateful for the patience of motorists whose journeys were affected.
“We would like to like to hear from anyone who saw what happened. They should phone Sussex Police on 101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, quoting Operation Alliance.”
