AN MOT for workers is one way Bognor Regis town-centre manager Toyubur Rahman wants to boost its commercial prospects.

He believes a healthy workforce is a happy workforce and that will show in the service customers receive.

The check-up is being held with the Arun Wellbeing team from 10am-6.30pm on September 30 at the Core business hub on Belmont Street.

“The town-centre area of Bognor has one of the lowest life expectancies in the district,” said Toyubur. “We need to make our workers fit and healthy to do their job and serve their customers as best they can.”

The idea comes from the first element of a four-part programme he has devised for Bognor:

1 – a welcoming town centre;

2 – a well-known town centre;

3 – a town centre which is busy and thriving; and

4 – a regenerating, developing and accessible town centre.

Another event he has lined up will also help to promote the town as a friendly place to visit.

He is arranging for town-centre shops to be part of the freshers’ fair at the Bognor campus of the University of Chichester on September 25.

Toyubur will be attending as well. “I want the students to know the amenities, the attractions and the facilities there are for them in the town centre.

“I will also be willing to take them on a tour of the area so they feel at home here,” he said.

The public events Toyubur has arranged include a series of Friday afternoon and evening entertainments in the London Road precinct. He has linked with Bognorphenia to stage the entertainment of music and dancing on the last Friday of every month from October to April.

For the well-known town-centre theme, Toyubur is hiring a portable sauna this winter to show Bognor offers a warm welcome whatever the time of year.

To help businesses thrive, he has arranged for Butlin’s to host a free session by its customer service team of its award-winning programme which is used by national retailers.

The event will take place from 6pm-9pm on September 30 at Butlin’s.

Shoppers will enjoy the results of Toyubur’s hard work behind the scenes with a series of free concerts in the London Road precinct on the last Friday of the month from October to April.
